As the world continues taking precautions to combat the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of fashion’s most influential names have stepped up to provide financial support and resources to help the global medical community, as well as those whose lives have been deeply affected by the virus.
LVMH made headlines last month by donating $2.2 million to the Red Cross in China. In addition, the luxury conglomerate has repurposed its perfume and cosmetics factories in France to produce free hand sanitizing gel for local hospitals and authorities, demonstrating how high-end brands can contribute essential resources during a global health crisis.
Italian influencer and entrepreneur Chiara Ferragni launched an online fundraising campaign that successfully raised over $4 million for hospitals across Italy, highlighting the role that social media and public figures can play in mobilizing aid.
Prada has directed its resources toward expanding critical care, funding two new intensive care units in three Milan hospitals to provide much-needed capacity for COVID-19 patients. Similarly, Versace pledged more than $200,000 to support the intensive care units at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, reinforcing the Italian fashion industry’s commitment to healthcare during the pandemic.
Giorgio Armani contributed nearly $1.4 million to multiple hospitals throughout Italy, while Marco Bizzarri, CEO of Gucci, personally donated over $100,000 to medical facilities in the Emilia-Romagna region. These acts of generosity underscore the fashion sector’s willingness to take social responsibility and provide tangible support during one of the most challenging global crises in recent memory.
